Who needs school when you have video games?

Okay, first things first--I have just had like three glasses of diet soda and I can SEE sound.

Also, just kidding, school is absolutely needed. Please, go to school. We have enough grammatical fallacy to last us a lifetime on Facebook, alone.

But, aside from being a damn good student and being an example to your peers everywhere and winning various awards that you can flaunt for the rest of your life and possibly curing cancer, I do want to say something.

no, really

I feel that video games have been an indispensable asset to me as a learning tool. I even feel they have taught me far more useful lessons than I have learned in school (Bear in mind however, that I am indeed American, and live in the state of Florida; I'm pretty sure I can find better education on the back of a cereal box).

Because of this, I get absolutely livid when I hear about all of these campaigns aimed at getting video games shut down. I especially hate that one commercial where some kids are playing a game and an adult figure comes and shuts the power off as an incentive to get the kids to play outside. That isn't necessary. It is fully possible to want to play outside and nourish the body as well as play on a video game and nourish the mind.

Video gaming not only taught me to make logical decisions based on circumstances, but also taught me to:
  • Save money and save up for things I need; i.e. budget myself
  • Move quickly and decisively
  • Make character judgments
  • Use math to make accurate outcome predictions
  • Work out ways to always save my teammates (when possible in the game)
  • Always help others (you never know who's a wizard in disguise!)
  • Word moving speeches to spur others to greatness
  • Responsibility
  • Tact
  • Common sense
  • Basic survival skills
And a myriad of other things I can't think of at the moment.
Hell, I know more than a few people that should have played some more video games in their lives. Perhaps they wouldn't be so judgmental and stupid today.

But don't worry, video game haters. When my goals are accomplished, I will make sure to lead my own pro-video game campaign, in your honor.

me, later on.
